As the days go by, the rules of the Taliban are getting stricter. This time, the Taliban government issued a decree banning the sale and use of contraceptives for women in Afghanistan. They also gave reasons behind this ban. Talekanar claims that it is a conspiracy of the western world to control the population of Muslims.
According to The Guardian, the sale of contraceptives has already been banned in two major cities in Afghanistan. Taliban government representatives have been going door-to-door warning women not to use contraceptives. Drug traders and shopkeepers have also been warned not to sell contraceptives or any other contraceptive products.
A drug dealer in Kabul said the Taliban twice brought guns to my shop and threatened me not to stock or sell contraceptives. Taliban rulers are regularly visiting every drug store in Kabul and verifying that the sale of contraceptives has been stopped. We are not selling that medicine anymore because of fear.
An Afghan woman said a Taliban commander came to her home and warned women not to leave the house and promote Western methods of population control.
It should be noted that after taking power in Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, the Taliban claimed that they would not rule like the 90s. They have also changed with time. The country will be governed according to Sharia law.
But this promise was only on the face. Within months of taking power, the Taliban regime banned higher education for girls. Women were thrown out of most jobs, and even restricted from leaving the house alone. This time ban on the use of contraceptives is added to this list.
