Strong earthquake again in Turkey-Syria

Turkey has yet to recover from the powerful earthquake, yet another earthquake has struck.

Another earthquake hit Hatay province in the southern part of the country yesterday at 8:04 pm local time. Its magnitude was 6.4 on the Richter scale. After that region of Turkey was shaken by another 32 shocks.

AFAD, the country's disaster management agency, said 32 aftershocks were felt after last night's quake. One of them had a magnitude of 5.8. The earthquake was felt not only in Turkey, but also in the neighboring countries of Syria, Lebanon and Egypt.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soygu confirmed that 3 people were killed and at least 213 injured in last night's earthquake. He said the three victims were residents of Antakya, Defne and Samandagi in Hatay province.

However, according to civilian sources, the number of people injured in this earthquake in Turkey and Syria is 680. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has been monitoring the situation in Syria since the civil war, said that 470 people were injured in hospitals after the earthquake.

A strong earthquake struck the border area between Turkey and Syria in the early hours of February 6. More than 47,000 bodies have been recovered in the two countries so far. More than 41,000 people have died in Turkey alone. AFAD said that more than 6,000 tremors have been felt in Turkey since the earthquake.
