An Indian citizen was shot dead by the local police at the Sydney train station in Australia. According to a report published in the Sydney Morning Herald, the deceased is an Indian national. The man suddenly attacked a cleaner with a knife. At that time, he threatened to attack the police when they tried to stop him. The police said that the shooting was forced.The Indian Consulate in Sydney has confirmed the identity of the deceased. The deceased's name is Mohammad Rahmatullah Syed Ahmed. His home is in Tamil Nadu, India. Ahmed's age is 32 years old, said the consulate. The Consulate General of India said, 'The incident is very worrying and unfortunate. We are working with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as well as the New South Wales Police Authority.Police allege Ahmed stabbed a 28-year-old cleaner at Auburn train station in Sydney's west on Tuesday. He tried to attack two police officers when he was prevented from doing so. A police officer then fired three shots, two of which hit Ahmed in the chest. He was later treated on the spot by paramedics and rushed to a local hospital. After being taken to the hospital, the doctors declared Ahmed dead.
In addition, New South Wales Police Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said at a press conference on Tuesday that there was no other option but to shoot Ahmed. However, Smith also said that the Counter Terrorism Unit will work to assist in the investigation of the incident.
Meanwhile, detectives are investigating whether Ahmed's mental health played a role in stabbing the cleaner and threatening police officers.
