Biden visits Zelensky in Kyiv and says Putin 'dead wrong' on Ukraine war

The US will back Ukraine in its fight against Russia for "as long as it takes" President Joe Biden said as he made an unannounced and symbolic visit to the capital, Kyiv.

"We have every confidence you're going to continue to prevail," he said.

Mr Biden's first trip to Ukraine as president comes days before the first anniversary of Russia's invasion.

He said President Putin had been "dead wrong" to think Russia could outlast Ukraine and its Western allies.

Mr Biden has been meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the pair visited a memorial to soldiers who have died in the nine years since Russia annexed Crimea and its proxy forces captured parts of the eastern Donbas region.

His presence is intended to reaffirm America's "unwavering commitment to Ukraine's democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity", according to a White House statement.

According to the New York Times, President Biden took a 10-hour train journey from Poland to reach Kyiv.

Mr Biden is expected to announce more military support for Ukraine, including ammunition and air surveillance radars.

A new wave of sanctions against individuals and companies "that are trying to evade or backfill Russia's war machine" will also be announced later this week.

Mr Zelensky said: "The results of this visit will surely be seen and will surely be reflected on the battlefield in liberating our territories."

madonna makes joke about ‘swelling from surgery

Madonna joked about plastic surgery in her latest social media post following the criticism she received over her appearance earlier this month at the Grammys. Madonna appeared at the ceremony to introduce Sam Smith and Kim Petras' performance of "Unholy," but the "Material Girl" singer was met with negative social media comments about her face and claims that plastic surgery has made her unrecognizable. In her latest Twitter post Monday, Madonna appeared to make light of the comments while sharing a new photo of herself. "Look how cute i am now that swelling from surgery has gone down. Lol," she wrote. After the Grammys ceremony, Madonna hit back at the critics of her appearance, accusing them of "ageism and misogyny." She wrote on Instagram: "Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim- Many people chose to only talk about Close-up photos of me Taken w...

2 killed in Russian attack on Zaporizhia: Ukraine

At least two people were killed in a Russian attack on an apartment building in the much-discussed Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia. Acting mayor of the city, Anatly Kurtev, said this on social media on Thursday. He also said that the five-storey building was almost completely destroyed in last night's attack. Incidentally, on February 24 of last year, Ukraine fell under the influence of Russian aggression. Moscow has stepped up attacks to mark the anniversary of the war.

Diplomatic conflict in India amid Ukraine war

The Ukraine war dominates the G20 foreign ministers' summit in New Delhi. Despite Prime Minister Modi's call for unity, tensions between the Western world and Russia show no signs of easing. Russia is desperately trying to capture the city of Bakhmut in an attempt to control eastern Ukraine. Despite heavy attacks, the Ukrainian army continues to resist. But whether it will be possible to withstand that pressure indefinitely, there are doubts within Ukraine. Member of Parliament of that country Sirhi Rakhmanin said that for now the aim is to harm the Russian forces as much as possible. According to him, either there is an organized retreat, or the struggle must continue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his troops were in control of every sector of the battlefield. It should be noted that the conflict for the control of Bakhmut city has been going on for the last seven months. Ukraine is gaining prominence in the diplomatic arena as well as on the battlefield.
