Anger against the Turkish president over the slowness of the rescue work, Erdoğan visited the affected areas
As the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey rises, so does the public's anger at President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Mr. Erdogan has been accused of failing to deal with the situation, which is why so many people lost their lives in Monday's devastating earthquake. Residents of the ravaged cities say the government's disaster and emergency management authorities have not acted quickly enough to reach the affected people. In such an angry situation, Turkish President Mr. Erdogan visited some of the worst affected areas. While talking to reporters in Kahramanmaras town, he admitted that there were some initial problems in dealing with the disaster situation. The city was the epicenter of the second earthquake and about 40 miles from the epicenter of the first.
He blamed damaged airports and roads for the delay in rescue operations. However, he says, the rescue work is now going on normally. “Initially there were some problems with the airport and roads. But today the situation has become much easier. Tomorrow will be easier," said President Erdoğan. "We have used everything we have," the Turkish president said during a visit to several southern cities. The situation is now under control. The state is doing its job.”
