3 dead, 600 injured in new earthquake in Turkey

 


After February 6, another earthquake hit Turkey yesterday at 8:04 PM local time. Three people died in this earthquake of magnitude 6.4. The earthquake was felt in devastated southern Turkey.Yesterday's earthquake was felt in Lebanon and Egypt. This earthquake has also affected Syria. At least 680 people were injured in yesterday's earthquake in Syria and Turkey combined. Turkey's disaster management agency AFAD said several aftershocks were felt after the earthquake. Those who died in Turkey were residents of Antakya, Defne and Samandagi in Hatay province.

A warning has been issued by the Turkish government after the earthquake. Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu called on the public not to enter the buildings that were damaged by the earthquake. He said that 213 people were injured in Monday's earthquake in Turkey.


The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has been monitoring the situation in Syria since the civil war, said 470 people were treated in hospitals in the country after yesterday's earthquakWitnesses in Antakya told Reuters news agency that some other buildings were damaged in yesterday's earthquake. Many are buried under such buildings.


Muna al-Qamar, a resident of Antakya, spoke to Reuters about this. She is camping in Antakya Central Park with her seven-year-old son. The new earthquake has created a layer of dust on top of the debris created by the previous earthquake. An earthquake struck the border area between Turkey and Syria in the early hours of February 6. More than 47,000 bodies have been recovered in the two countries so far.
