Earthquake in Turkey-Syria killed 52 thousand

 


The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 52,000. The death toll of 52,348 people has been confirmed so far in the two countries. Among them, 45 thousand 89 people are in Turkey. And in neighboring Syria, this number is 7 thousand 259. This information is known from a report of Turkish media TRT World today.


It is said that the bodies of 52 thousand 348 people have been recovered from under the rubble so far. Among them, 45 thousand 89 in Turkey and 7 thousand 259 in Syria.

Earlier, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey in the early hours of February 6. After some time another earthquake of magnitude 6.7 occurred. Then on the night of February 20, two earthquakes of magnitude 6.4 and 5.8 struck again.


After the first earthquake, the country experienced more than 11,000 aftershocks. More than 150,000 buildings were extensively damaged in the earthquake. The earthquake is said to be the worst disaster in the last 100 years.


The World Health Organization says that more than two and a half million people have been affected by the earthquake. In this situation, the United Nations has asked for 100 million dollars to help the victims.


Meanwhile, the Turkish government said it would begin construction of more than 300,000 homes in earthquake-hit areas as early as March and complete the process within a year.


Note that in 1939, 33,000 people were killed in the eastern Erzincan province of Turkey by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake.
